My first experience "Freshwater fishing"

Hari Sabtu lalu tanggal 3 Oktober 98 saya dan teman-teman
sekantor pergi ke Kolam pancing "DIANA"..
Gila ikannya banyak betul.....koleksinya lengkap :
1. Ikan Gurame (cocok untuk goreng kering) Rp 12.000/Kg
2. Ikan Pegasius (dimasak kuning...wah enak banget) Rp 10.000/Kg
3. Ikan Mas "Giant" (yang ini rada enggak suka tuh) Rp 10.000/Kg
4. Ikan Bawal air tawar (Dagingnya tebal tuh......) Rp 10.000/Kg
5. Ikan Belida (yang ini mahal bo.....) Rp 50.000/Kg
My first strike is Bawal air tawar......sekitar 3/4
Kg...tarikannya ok juga......tapi gampang nyerah. Gear yang dipakai
mancing adalah Reel Shimano Calcuta 200 dengan 7lb line dan Shimana
Catana Rod.
Wah kelihatannya kalau pakai line yang lebih kecil....pasti
lebih ok....nah bagi angler coba deh kalau mancing di sana (Diana)
pakai line yang sekitar 4-5 lb dengan light gear. (Pasti lebih ok)
O'yach kawan sekantor (Bpk Shodiq) memecahkan rekor
hari itu, coba bayangin Pegasius 8.5 Kg hooked dengan light gear dan
line sekitar 6-7 lb. Guest...it take 30 menit to fight the fish. Ok
deh ....
How about we arrange to go there together......may
be Indra bisa jadi panitia,......setuju.....apa.....setuju..........
nich Tip-tip :
1. Ikan Mas ------- Umpannya Pelet
2. Ikan Belida -------- Umpannya Udang basa
3. Ikan Bawal Air Tawar ------- Umpannya Keong Mas (bisa didapat disana)
atau daging kambing
4. Ikan Pegasius --------- Umpannya Pelet
5. Ikan Gurame ----------- Umpannya Jangkrik atau Uter
6. Usahakan bawa sun creame 15 SPF, pana sekali disana
7. Bawa payung dan topi
8. Biar seru always use Light Gear with 4-5 lb of line
9. Siapkan bumbu dirumah, soalnya mancing disana pasti dapat ikan.....namanya
aja beli... ok deh.....any question ............
Mancing di Jepang

Salam buat semua yang membaca! Saya anggota baru
& mau bagi pengalaman mancing kakap merah ("madai") di Jepang. Bagi
yang sudah pernah, anggap saja nostalgia... :)
Mancing di Jepang sedikit unik dibanding dengan di Indonesia. Sepanjang
pengalaman saya mancing di Indonesia (tidak termasuk trolling), mulai
dari mancing mujair & sembilang di Cilincing/Marunda jaman es-de,
mancing di pantai Sampur/Ancol & nongkrong di bagang jaman es-em-pe
sampai mancing di P. Seribu/Cilacap nyari kakap/kerapu/kuwe, tekniknya
hampir sama: mancing dasar, umpan hidup, atau pakai ranggung.
Waktu pertama kali diajak mancing di Tokyo bay ('96) nyari kakap merah,
saya kaget juga lihat tekniknya. Prinsipnya sih sama seperti ranggung
tapi rada antik. Dari kenur utama (main line) 30 lb, ada 5 meter leader
50 lb disambung ke spreader ("teng-bin") dengan dua cabang, satu ke
penyebar "chum" yang sebesar kaleng susu bayi dibolongin kaya saringan
(namanya "bishi", dengan built-in timah) dan satu lagi ke kenur leader
yang tipis sekali (kelas 6 lb) sepanjang 6 meter. Antara spreader
dengan kenur tipis ada 1 meter "cushion" yang tebalnya 3 mm, elastis,
dengan kekuatan 100 lb. Umpannya rebon dan "bishinya" juga diisi pakai
rebon. Waktu pertama kali mengisi "bishi" dengan rebon saya pikir
teknik begini sih 'nggak bakal kepake di Indonesia, soalnya isi satu
"bishi" dengan rebon saja sudah hampir seperempat kilo! Lagian, apa
kuat itu kenur 6 lb? Waktu itu saya dapat 3 ekor kakap merah saja,
yang terbesar 8 kg. Ternyata, menurut teman saya yang orang Jepang,
cushion yang 1 meter bisa melar sampai 2,5 meter dan kekuatan leader
6 lb bisa nahan beban sampai 50 lb karena ada "per" nya.
Kenapa perlu pakai "bishi"? Karana kebanyakan ikan yang ditargetkan
di sekitar Jepang adalah jenis "pelagic" yang suka migrasi tergantung
musim, arus, dan makanan. Jadi perlu di"kumpulin" kalau lagi dateng.
Lagian, orang Jepang betul betul suka ikan laut & suka mancing telah
menyebabkan laut disekitar kota besar Jepang "over-fishing". Jumlah
ikan yang sedikit dan menyebar perlu dikumpulkan dengan "on-line chumming".
Pada dasarnya teknik mancingnya sbb:
1. Kedalaman laut antara 30 sampai 80 meter
2. Dasar lautnya berbukit-lembah, banyak celah-celah sungai dasar
laut
3. Target ikan akan diundang ke daerah 5-10 meter diatas dasar laut
dengan rebon dari "bishi"
4. Pemancing memakai reel dengan "line counter" untuk mengetahui kedalaman
umpan. Bisa juga dengan kenur model baru (tipe spectra) yang diberi
tanda (strip setiap satu/lima meter).
5. Kapten kapal akan memberi tahu kedalaman dasar laut & kedalaman
target ikan (dengan melihat fishfinder/pengalaman)
6. Pemancing menurunkan "bishi" ke target kedalaman + panjang kenur/leader
tipis (misalnya target ikan di 50 meter dan kenur/leader tipisnya
6 meter, "bishi" diturunkan ke 56 meter)
7. Pemancing mulai menggoyang gagang pancing supaya rebon dari "bishi"
menyebar, kemudian menggulung setiap satu meter, goyang lagi, gulung
lagi, terus sampai target kedalaman (50 meter) tercapai
8. Dari situ pancingan diletakkan di "rod holder" dan pemancing tinggal
menunggu. Kalau umpan disantap ikan, kombinasi tipe mata pancing &
"cushion" akan menyebabkan ikan tersangkut pancing tanpa disentak
(self-hooked).
Teknik "bishi" ini digunakan di Jepang untuk hampir semua jenis ikan
ukuran kecil/sedang/tanggung. Perbedaannya hanya di panjang-pendeknya
kenur/leader tipis & mata pancingnya. Kunci teknink "bishi" adalah
kerja-sama antar pemancing sekapal karena tidak boleh ada yang malas
menaikkan & mengisi "bishi" yang sudah kosong dan setiap "bishi" harus
di kedalaman yang sama. Di satu lokasi puluhan kapal pancing kumpul,
jadi kompetisi betul betul ketat.
Teknik yang berbeda digunakan untuk mancing hirame (winter flounder/ikan
sebelah?), kanpachi (bluefish), moroko (jewfish/giant kerapu), dll.

Fishing in Chiba

Now is winter season here in Tokyo, slow season for
fishing in general, but according to Tokyo fishing newspaper lots
of winter flounder (jenis ikan sebelah) were taken last week from
sea around Chiba prefecture. Six of us went to Katsuura, Chiba (4
hours drive from Tokyo) just after midnight last Sunday with high
expectation since winter flounder fishing in Japan can be very frustrating
when you get not even a strike. FYI, winter flounder (locally called
hirame) is the most prized fish in Japan for sashimi (raw fish), next
only to meijimaguro toro (belly of bluefin tuna). In Tokyo market,
a freshly sea-caught hirame weighted above 2 kgs will easily sell
for Yen 12,000 (100 dollar) per kilo, 5 times compare to farmed ones.
Although I am not crazy with raw fish like the japs, I shared their
enthusiasm.
We used bottom fishing rig with double hooks and big live sardine
as the bait (maybe sounds very unusual for flounder, especially for
those who have tried catching flounder elsewhere). The location was
around an hour from the shore using high-speed fishing party-boat
with twenty fishermen on board. The sea-bed texture was long flat
sandy (tandes) sorounded by undersea hills on-and-off with the depth
of 50-60 meters. The captain selected the location and then we started
droping our baits while the boat drifted. We started fishing from
6:00 in the morning, but until 9:00 nobody hooked anything, not even
a strike although the captain changed the locations few times. Then
something unexpected happened, a friend of mine next to me was reeling
quickly to change the bait with fresh one when suddenly his rod tip
bent violently and the reel drag screamed for about five seconds before
the line break. Only me and my friends actually aware about it, and
I tought "well, maybe there are some others like that, who knows?
Maybe there are no hirame down there after all?". I quickly changed
my rod with Daiwa Grandwave & my reel with Shimano Ocea (yes, that
high-speed jigging gear). I tied a 200 grams fluorescent Shimano beastmaster
iron jig with 60 lb fluorocarbon leader. I did that quietly because
it is an un-written rule here that if the target fish has been decided,
no fishermen on-board shall change their rigs to target different
fishes (unless the captain decides so) because even the slight change
in terminal tackle can cause tangle while fast-drifting in cramped
boat. That's why I selected 200 grams jig to match the weight of Hirame's
tackle.
I droped the jig, sent it to the bottom, then started cranking lightning
fast (Ocea gear ratio is 6.2:1, and mine is fully spooled with 500
meters 30 lb new-braided line, taking 1.4 meter of line in one turn).
Several times I did that and got healthy perspiration already when
JACKPOT!! I got a strike, very very violent one, I didn't even have
the chance to set the hook!! I hanged for awhile, giving out lots
and lots of line while slowly pumping and cranking, when finally I
boated a 30 lb class Hiramasa (california yellow-tail). Luckily, others
except my friends didn't know I used metal jig since the beast inhaled
my beastmaster deep. It turned out to be the only fish I boated that
day, no matter how I tried to play the jig. Twenty people on board
and only five Hirame plus the hiramasa boated!!! When we returned
to the captain house for lunch, I was asked to fill my name & address
for the "newspaper column". I wonder if somebody today is reading
my story in the newspaper and decides to go fishing tomorrow (public
holiday here) chasing hiramasa nyasar, beating 3-meter wave zero degree
celcius rainy weather forecast! Fisherman life is not easy here :(......
I love Indonesian sea!
